Make a Christmas Wishlist - stolen from a friend v^_^v

Step One:

Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your weblog of choice. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two:

Surf around your friends list (or friends-friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.

And now here's the important part: if you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream pure-bred Basset Hound for free -- DO IT. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf -- to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Ang tunay na makakapagpaligaya kay Ligaya (The things that will truly make Ligaya happy):

  1. A ONE / UNO (1.0) on her thesis
  2. To see her parents become friends again, which is better than seeing them die slowly day by day from hating each others' guts
  3. To be able to support her parents while earning her master's degree
  4. To meet and have a happy, fairy-tale ending with her Mahal
  5. To have more than PhP3,000.00 in her ATM account
  6. To find her shiny happy pink cloth so she can proceed with her final costume
  7. To be inspired to draw and write freely again
  8. To be 20 pounds thinner, 6 inches taller and a cup size fuller -- or at least to get all her fat to concentrate itself on her tiny breasts
  9. To collect all her favourite (and a notable number of lost) anime, manga, J-music and music CDs before she turns 30, which is when she plans to stop collecting these and concentrate on real life
  10. To restore her singing voice, piano-playing and note-reading skills as soon as possible

Of course, I know I can actually do many of these myself, but a few prayers and comments of encouragement through my guestbook (see upper-left corner of this page) would help me a lot.

Thanks heaps.

Postscript: Hopefully this time around I can be the spirit of good Christmas cheer... but I'll need number five (5) from my list first! v^_^0

REPOST: First-ever foray into weblogging - MARCH 2003

** I am reposting all the posts I've retrieved from my first-ever weblog, which has sadly passed on. This section will be their new home, at least for the meantime. I guess I can't let it go just yet, so pardon my poetic waxing and all that sentimentality stuff. Thanks for understanding. **

Hello! This is Ligaya, signing on. ^_^

I didn't want to do it, but I couldn't help it...Anyways, this is going to be an online journal that I'll be posting on INTERMITTENTLY, depending on my schedule. So please, be kind. (Although really ... who'd want to read it? I'm such a boring person...)

One more thing: All the info here is as close as you'll get to the real me, so you can't do anything about it. No stalkers, flames, obscenities, etc. can be directed at me at any time for any reason. Questions about intimate details of my life will never be entertained. And yes, if you really must know - this is just a screen name.

Well! Let's begin!

<--3/9/2003 09:34:37 PM-->

Pakshet. I couldn't get into some of my old accounts (namely ezboard, Topica, GirlTalk, etc.)!!! No thanks to their stupid administrators I had to fill out new profiles and add new accounts. Is that RIGHT?!

And my search for a free web server provider ... let's not even go there. XP

My body hurts from sooooooooooo much dancing... @.@;;;
And my head hurts from that bloody Econ 11 exam...

Hope tomorrow gets better! T_T

<--3/19/2003 07:21:11 PM-->
And a VERY (UN)happy Birthday to me, too...

Paaaaaaaaaaksheeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! Of ALL the times the US, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal and Iraq to pursue war, it just HAD to be on my birthday. (My birthday was on the original deadline flung by the US to Iraq in order for the latter to destroy all its supposed "weapons of mass destruction.") No thanks to all of them, we are living under the shadow of war here in Asia right now... XP

The stock market's predictably down, the exchange rate between my country's currency and the US dollar has gone completely off the wall, and we have only 65 days' worth of crude oil plus only about 13 million metric tons to tide us through the crisis. I mean, dude, SIXTY-FIVE DAYS' WORTH OF CRUDE OIL?!?! Who the hell is the government kidding?!?!
>_________________< Worse, my body STILL hurts from the awkward judo throw done by some girl ... guess who was thrown from an UPRIGHT position (a definite no-no in judo). X_X;;; My shoulder blades are aching, my back, although better, still is in pain, and my sprain's showing no sign of getting better. I hope I'll be fine. -_-;;; And of course, dancing just made everything WORSE. Plus, I STILL don't have any of the books I need for Polsci 14... @_@;;; The few things that's making me live through the rest of this week are the voice of Mahal and the Alichino manga I bought. ~_~ Oh, and the many friends I have who've gone through great lengths to surprise me on my birthday. (Though I really wish they hadn't - I wasn't completely surprised... ^_^;;;)

Anyways, I've still got TONS of schoolwork to do.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! My exams suck!!! ... And I can't find a way to make this blog public!!! T__________T If anyone, ANYONE at all can read this in public, please help me ok? I really need to know how this works...
Thanks!

<--3/26/2003 08:42:30 PM-->

On second thought... I've finally figured it out!!! ~______________~

Goddamn those traffic jams in Metro Manila!!! >_<>
Yes, folks, I STILL haven't finished reading any of the other books (thank goodness I'm done with Under the Crescent Moon, though, but still...). I wasn't even able to return the books at once. And my head hurts from my suddenly vampiric sleeping habits. (Cherl-dono would've been proud. Hey, Cherl, how's Japan? \~_~/ )
My brain refuses to think. I really do hope my prof posts test questions, as from what I heard they helped a teenie bit in making the students pass in the last test. (Of course, that's still too little, but anyways... ^_^;;;) I better go.
Mode: Bitch Goddess (I hope the b-word shows!!! ;_;)

Please check out the KAKA FUN COLLECTIVE!

There, I've done it. My first site. Although it's actually a collective and most of my friends (who form the collective and the club where the collective is based on) will hate it because of its pink template (I didn't have a choice! Don't hurt me guys! T_T), I'm PROUD. ^___________________________________^

Will update when I've the time, but until then, ciao for now!

<--3/28/2003 09:18:49 PM-->
Isang tulog na lang, birthday na ni Miss D!!!

Tomorrow is already Miss D's debutante ball, and although I'd normally be excited, right now I'm TERRIFIED!!! @_@;;; Why, you may ask? Here are the reasons...

  1. I can't fit into my gown (I am FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!! T_T );
  2. My throat hurts (I have to sing);
  3. I KNOW I'll screw up during the dance, especially in the waltz;
  4. My brain is officially roasted
BTW, yes, I flunked my PolSci exam. No, my prof didn't put up test questions; yes, he made life difficult for all of us students.
I don't know though, he's such an amiable man too. -_-;;; Oh well...
I'll try to put up some buttons I have with me. I wanna link to some luvverrly Sailormoon sites. ~_~ They're the only things to keep me in high spirits right now.
Congrats to Spirited Away for winning Best Animated Motion Picture in the recently concluded Oscar Awards!!! \~o~/ Studio Ghibli the best!!!

TO ALL NETIZENS: THIS IS HOW PINOY COSPLAYERS SHOULD NEVER BE.

It was brought to my attention, as a co-moderator of the ORIGINAL Pinoy Cosplay Mailing List, that some unscrupulous cosplayer-n00b by the name of MIKE ABUNDO was using the name of our group with the help of another person who I thought was a friend of mine.

And here's how they used it! And all WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION from the list owner (a friend of mine who no longer cosplays) and any of the moderators, including myself.

Now this would have been fine, except for the following evidences which shall present below.

** Identities have been emitted to protect the privacy of certain individuals involved. This post is just between Mike Abundo and myself, so even if they have played any roles in this these people will not be mentioned. Also, statements with highlights are mine. Anything with "sic" points any serious perceptual error on the part of any correspondent listed below. However, everything else will be posted verbatim

EXHIBIT A:

Hello guys,

I wrote mike a private latter via Filcosplay forums and it goes like this:
============
Just a notice and not Filcosplay related. Thanks for inviting me to be a part of Pinoy Cosplay but i cant help but wonder if the original owner of the name had any affiliation with your forum. You did mention that itis not in any way related to the Mailing List that has been in existence since 2001 (tomy knowledge). Would this cause confusion in both parties? It would be best that you change the name. You cant say that you have not heard of thisgroup since if you Google the name Pinoy cosplay, you would find it there. Incidently ifi google Pinoy Cosplay, your site comes out first, then {name removed} and Joy's ML comes rightafter until the second page.I would recommend that you change the name of your group as soon as possible, somethingthat would not induce any confusion to {name removed}and Joy's Mailing List. Even if it had minimal activity, it still has the right to its name.
Im PMing you so that we could quietly come to a solution like mature adults. But if thisthing continues, or if this letter is ignored, i have no choice but to vocally go againstit, in an open debate if you like, and in your forum if you must. Again, do not take these action as a means of sabotaging your forum just because i am a mod of Filcosplay. I'm doing this because i know {name removed}and joy (with {name removed} a barkada of ours from OAV) and i respect both of them. Once this is settled and the name changed youwont hear this topic from me again.

{name removed}
{email removed}

After an hour Mike has chose not to ignore this letter and replied:

Hi Robert,You have a point, but a new domain name would cost real money. I have a solution that will benefit the entire Philippine cosplay community.I've invested time, money, and expertise (in terms search engine optimization, trackinginfrastructure setup, CSS customization, web strategy, and online community management)to build an open, user-friendly web forum. {name removed} and Joy have invested time,connections, and community knowledge to build a respected mailing list.As such, I propose a merger between the two. That way, Philippine cosplay can besynergistically developed across two online media: a web forum, and a mailing list. Thesum will be greater than its parts.I would be happy to apply my seven years of web strategy experience to help {name removed} andJoy catapult their mailing list to new levels of usefulness and popularity.We have a golden opportunity here, Robert: an opportunity to bring Philippine cosplay out of closed-garden insularity, and into the global conversation. We can rid this country of cospolitics. Let's not waste that opportunity.

Regards, Mike

---> Now I know that the cosplay community is sadly rampant of politicking, but the reason many of us continue to engage in cosplay is because we have been there since the politicking, and believe that we all can rise above it.

Isn't it obvious though how much he keeps proclaiming himself as "the saviour of the Filipino costume play community"? (see highlights, again those are mine) And when did domain name ever become the issue? The issue of the matter is that MIKE ABUNDO IS USING OUR DOMAIN NAME FOR PERSONAL GAIN.

EXHIBIT B: http://mikeabundo.blogspot.com/2005/10/pinoycosplaycom.html#links

---> I replied to this as nicely as possible, but go read the comments section for the reply. See the same phrase, "closed-garden insularity"? Get used to it. You'll be seeing this and many variations of it later on. How rude and insensitive. He isn't even apologetic over taking the name arbitrarily, the cad.

EXHIBIT C: http://thealternativeme.blogspot.com/2005/10/all-for-show.html

---> Well, goes to show that halfway around the world, great minds think alike. (To the good lady who owns the aforementioned blog, I'm terribly sorry for dragging you into this mess!)

FROM ONE WHO MISUNDERSTANDS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF PINOY COSPLAY

This is about a person who isn't worth my time, but who brilliantly works my easily frayed temper into overdrive. His name is ODNUBA EKIM (in reverse please), aka Mr. Moron.

Consider yourselves warned people.

+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~
Me: I understand that you used the name "PinoyCosplay" for your new board. I also understand that you may have been spurred into creating this board along with Ms. J.P. because of personal and political reasons which may or may not have to do with the politicking that is sadly rampant in FilCosplay.

Moron: It's not about politics. It's about programming.
Did you know that the domain FilCosplay.tk has an estimated 25% downtime? Did you know that FilCosplay.tk's frame structure prevents login session persistence, search indexing, and individual page bookmarking? Are you aware that required registration renders external links useless to nonmembers?
As a social media web service, FilCosplay.tk's design flaws make it unacceptable. Thus, we built a service without those design flaws.

Me: However, I would like to say that the "old-timers" of the PinoyCosplay eGroup/Yahoogroup do not approve of you taking the name arbitrarily and most of all, WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. I for one am particularly aghast because most of the moderating rights currently belong to me, after a consensus with the other moderators.

Moron: With all due respect, no one needs your permission. Please refer to a similar scenario in Singapore.
Nevertheless, I still recognize your past contributions to Philippine cosplay. Our merger offer stands. Don't let pride get in the way of a chance to better serve the Philippine cosplay community.

+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~

--> So it's all about programming now is it? Is having a cosplay community like Filcosplay all about "downtime," "login session persistnce," "search indexing," "individual page bookmarking" now? Something tells me you watch too much sci-fi flicks, boy. I never thought I'd live to see the day when even the very word "community" ceases to exist in the vast expanses of cyberspace.

Also, if the original founder of FilCosplay were to talk to you now, I am sure she herself would say that she created our group not because she wanted it to be a social media web service, but because she just wanted a place for cosplayers like herself to hang out in. She originally created it to be closed to non-members, and we not only respect her decision but her reasons for doing so.

Now I would not mind having the name copyrighted but you see, in the linked post you mentioned about, the copyrighted name in question was COSPLAY. NOT "Pinoy Cosplay." They are two entirely different things. Think of it this way - EVERYONE uses the word "cosplay", BUT ONLY FILIPINO COSPLAYERS USE THE PHRASE "PINOY COSPLAY" in any and all possible transmogrifications thereof. I suggest you look into this page. It contains statements I have salvaged from the old layout of the old Pinoy Cosplay website, and I quote them verbatim from the list's original owner to see what exactly makes a Pinoy Cosplayer, because frankly, I don't believe you deserve to be one at all. You are not above sexual exploitation, no matter how mild, just to promote yourself as a legitimate cosplayer. Granted, there are many instances when flesh overrides skill as a factor for winning cosplay contests, but at least those who have won (I have not) have used their skills in costuming, absorbing the characters (even temporarily) and understanding the characters they portray in order to clinch their prizes. And they have always made it a point to emphasize that cosplay isn't just about titillation and staying under the spotlight, pun intended.

As for the legal technicalities of this, I admit that the Philippines does not have enougb laws protecting cyberspace abuse in any form, and even less teeth to enact these laws, but I also believe that this is because the principle of freedom of expression, which is stated in our constitution, has always been the goal in mind among Pinoy Netizens. However, with freedom comes responsibility, and this responsibility is to make sure that one's freedom does not step on and hurt another's. Unfortunately, I believe you have abused that freedom by 1) openly refusing to ask for permission to use the name "Pinoy Cosplay", 2) creating a flamboyant site with the name "Pinoy Cosplay," which sadly seems to be advertising the revelation of skin and the perks of persistent, unabashed self-promotion when cosplay has always been about promoting your favorite character, your personal skills and your personal fulfillment at having fun while in costume, and 3) getting the Creative Commons License site to vouch for you when you did not even come up with the moniker that started five years of growth for this growing hobby. I am only consoled by the fact that you have not been able as of yet to register the name fully, and I dread to think that you might do it soon.

I do not regret declining your offer, or any other offer you wish to present to me later on. Go ahead, keep the domain name, I obviously do not have enough money to buy it. But please do remember that the label "PinoyCosplay" is not just a label, but a full of history and a demanding, overwhelming sense of social responsibility, which I am sad to say you lack, if your incoherent, inaccurate statements in our forum and your blog picture alone are all that an outsider have to go by.

It was so difficult for me to write this as calmly as possible, but it DOES beat sending you a notice asking your presence at court, or sending fellow cosplayers and our personal friends to finish you off, though indeed those two scenarios are tempting.

El Santo Papa ha muerto. Viva el Papa Juan Pablo II!

Words can't seem to describe the feeling of loss I have right now ... even if I never met him personally, I feel sad nonetheless. Not just as a proud, practising Roman Catholic, but as a person. He seemed like a very nice man. I am forever glad to have had a glimpse of him back in the 1995 World Youth Day here in Manila.
For some reason ALL of the people I've wanted to meet for the longest time have died or are dying before I ever get the chance to meet them, but that's just me.
Though ... I am glad he is now at peace, resting in the bosom of the Lord.
It's at moments like these when I wish I could return to drawing...

CRIES FOR HELP

  1. My friend Nicole needs to know if anyone among my friends out here has "lucky pets" (think arowanas, snakes, three-colored cats, etc.), and if they have interesting stories to tell about these pets. She needs them ASAP. Please forward your stories here.
  2. My other friend Ate Sasa (Teresa Morales, for all you Povedans who graduated before, after or with 4D of Batch 1997) suffered her mother's sudden and serious operation. The family needs prayers and comfort since her mother shows no sign of recovery to date and the family's resources have been drastically lowered because of the operation.

Please guys, let's help them out.

Thank you so much and may God bless you always!
